About Me

Mary Lane
I trained at Dartington College of Arts and Rolle College, Devon. I live and work in Huddersfield where I served an apprenticeship as a handloom weaver followed by a Diploma in Handlloom Weaving from Harrogate College of Art. I began my textile career as a rug weaver but more recently I have turned to the traditional techniques of rug hooking and prodding. I have a well balanced creative life where I spend half of my time teaching in a small rural primary school and the rest creating textile work. I run workshops for adults and children because I want to encourage people to take up this craft. It is important that these traditions are kept alive as part of a sustainable lifestyle. I use traditional rag rug techniques to express myself. I love colour and texture and this I hope is reflected in my textile art. Contact me: maryhollingbery@yahoo.co.uk
